What is Teachmeet?

A teachmeet is a group of teachers and educators that have got together to share ideas. These are ideas that they have used in the classroom and that they want to share with a wider audience. These can be using technology but they don’t have to be. Traditionally the use of Powerpoint is frowned upon, but personally, I think you should be able to present using any tool you wish. This might be Powerpoint, Prezi, bits of paper or in the case of one that I saw, a guitar. The main thing is the sharing of ideas.

Generally Teachmeets follow some simple rules and the main one is that presentations are short, usually 2 or 7 minutes in length. This means that you can get lots of people sharing lots of ideas in one event. The presentations are also about ideas rather than products.

Teachmeets happen across the country (and the world) and they started as small meetings in a pub or over dinner. They now run mainly as either an event after a conference or as an event in their own right. We are aiming to host a number of them in Hampshire throughout the year. They are truly inspirational events and you should try and make the effort to attend one. We’d love to see you at an event in the future…and why not bring a friend?
